Welcome back, this is my third blog post for Software Engineering.

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I completed a few online assessments for companies that I applied to. Citadel was particularly tricky! For this class in particular, I managed to finish the Collatz project.

What’s in your way?

In my last blog post, I told myself that I will start the Collatz project early and finish halfway through the week. Instead, I started halfway through the week and finished today. I really need to focus on starting earlier so I don’t have to keep worrying about it.

What will you do next week?

For the next week, I will try to get started early on the second project. Other than that, it is business as usual for me.

What was your experience of Collatz, the starter code, the makefile, its optimizations, and exceptions?

I think the most frustrating thing about this project is just setting everything up. It took me a long time to download the right command line for windows, getting docker setup, and figuring out how to properly push to gitlab. The project itself wasn’t so difficult thankfully, as Prof. Downing did a good job teaching me about how to optimize Collatz. I’m also more familiar with the makefile and its uses.

What made you happy this week?

We finally got the first taste of fall weather this week so I really enjoyed taking strolls through my neighborhood. Too bad it’s back to 90 degrees already. I love fall weather so I can’t wait for it to come back. Also, I missed Texas football so watching them destroy UTEP was satisfying.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week is to start applying to internships right now! Better if you started a month or two ago but the second-best time is now! Organize where you applied to in a spreadsheet. Here is a nice open-source for which companies have their apps open and links to the apps. It provides a quick and easy way to find out where to apply to compared to having to filter through a bunch of jobs that aren’t a right fit on job sites. https://github.com/Pitt-CSC/Summer2021-Internships
